Cheap Life Insurance Policies – Really?

Cheap Life Insurance Policies: This statement is all over the web. On a daily basis, I get a call from someone,  ” I want that $14 a month plan”.  Now I know, some of you are thinking “Really, that person believes that?”.  Yes, people do believe it , and yes, these plans can be obtained, but you need to know what qualifies you for this type of quote.

It’s In the Fine Print!

I know the companies that advertise this,  will argue with me about the “Fine Print” of the TV, Radio or Ad spot. But they know people don’t read this stuff, and this is what they are counting on. These advertised rates are generally for  very young adults, under 25, with no medical problems and no family history and probably looking at a low term length policy. If they show rates for an older male, say 35+, then this person is, again, in excellent health and the fine print on the ad will generally show a 10 year term life policy.  If you can meet this criteria, then yes you can get a very inexpensive rate on Term Life Insurance.  These are full medically underwritten plans and yes you wil have to take a medical exam.

You may want to consider a No Medical Exam life insurance Policy.

Can I still get a good life insurance rate?

Of course! Just be aware that if you do not fit in the above criteria then getting a $250K for $14 a month is probably not going to happen.  You must make sure that you work with an Independent agent vs a Captive agent. To get the best quotes you must insure that your independent agent works with multiple carriers.. maybe 60+

What is going to determine my rates?

Simple, your overall  Health / Health History and the face amount of your life insurance policy.

Everyone’s situation is a bit different. Here are some general Health questions that need to be reviewed:

Height Weight

1) Have you used any tobacco products in the last 5 years?
2) Are you currently taking any prescription medications?
3) Have you ever had any major surgery?
4) In the past 5 years, been convicted of 2 or more driving violations, DUI, or had DL suspended or revoked?
5) Have you ever been convicted of a felony?
6) Have you ever filed bankruptcy?
7) Do you participate in any dangerous activities such as aviation, racing, SCUBA diving, skydiving, hang gliding?
8) Anyone in immediate family pass away from stroke, cancer, or heart disease at or before age 60?
9) Do you have any other health issues that might affect your insurance application?
10) Do you currently have any coverage in force?
11) Do you currently have any other pending life insurance applications?
